What is the difference between standard CNC turning and Swiss-style turning?
In a standard CNC lathe, the material is clamped at one end and sticks out, making long, thin parts prone to bending or deflecting under the pressure of the cutting tool. In a Swiss-style lathe, the material is fed through a guide bushing directly past the cutting tool. The tool cuts millimeters away from the support bushing, providing immense rigidity and allowing us to hold extreme tolerances on long, microscopic parts (like medical screws).
